Training

The Campus Veterinarian, in cooperation with the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, conducts Animal Awareness seminars for all individuals using animals at WSU. Individuals whose names appear on Animal Subjects Approval Forms are required to attend this seminar. This seminar provides an orientation and overview of the animal care & use programs at WSU.

People sitting at a pc. WSU's On-line Training program supplemental only - does NOT replace the requirement of attending the seminar.

Can't remember the date you attended that IACUC seminar?? Contact Tina at 335-6246.

Hands-On Workshop Training for rodents and rabbits: Our staff provides training and instruction in animal handling and routine procedures (restraint, blood collection, drug administration techniques, surgical procedures, aseptic technique, anesthesia, euthanasia, etc). To inquire about this training or to schedule a training session, contact Tina or call 335-6246.

Guidelines for Handling, Restraint, Injections and Blood Collection of the small laboratory animals.

These Workshops are not mandatory, but are highly recommended for research staff who will be using rodents or rabbits. Rodent workshops usually take all day.  The morning session consists of rodent handling, restraining, injection techniques, etc. The afternoon session will be a hands-on wet lab and will cover aseptic surgery. You may choose to go to both sessions or just one, depending on your research needs.

Animals are usually ordered for these Rodent Workshops. Please take your registration seriously. Let us know immediately if you will not be able to attend. The animal will give his life -- do not register if you are not willing to give your time.

REFERENCE LIBRARY: Our Office has a technical reference library available to research and teaching personnel, animal care staff, students and IACUC members. This reference library has textbooks, newsletters, journals, slide and video training materials covering all aspects of laboratory animal care and use. To inquire about the material contact Tina or call 335-6246.
